Kumon - Pay is an insult
I was interviewed for a Assistant position at Kumon Math and Reading and I was offered $7.50 per hour. I am a retired teacher with a Master's degree and have taught high school Mathematics for 22 years.
As much as I would love to work with children again, the pay is an insult compared to what the parents are charged at Kumon.
I believe teaching is a noble profession, but that teachers should be shown enough respect to be paid on a professional scale, especially when the parents are paying so much. No wonder Kumon doesn't work and the parents are not seeing results.
Monetary Loss: $28.
Location: Houston, Texas

I was paid 7.25 and all holidays are unpaid and other unpaid days around holidays and no sick days and no vacation of course and no advancement and no hello or goodby, assistants are worthless drones and treated like it. But they won't hire you if you're not a college graduate. Scandalous.
Disgusting owner, low pay, owner cheats parents and staff. Long hours like slaves and rude.
Bad pay, rude woman to work for, long hours doing useless work. The woman I work for lies to parents about their children and keeps repeating their work so that she can make more money. Parents don't know she is cheating them.
Working in Kumon math learning centers is worse than slavery. $2.75 per hour in San Francisco doesn't buy you ***. The woman who owns this place needs to go back to China and practice her slavery in her own country.
Pay at Kumon sucks!! I could make more at the grocery store.
I was paid in cash by the Kumon owner far less than minimum wage. At the end of the year when my accountant asked me for my W2, I asked for one from the Kumon owner who told told that she doesn't give W2s and my pay was final.
I kept insisting and was told that the center no longer needed me. Don't work for these jerks.
It's kind of amusing to see an educator with a teaching accreditation change career's into the customer service industry. But when you meet one who quit to join walmart - it's down right sad.
Why?
Because a 25 year old walmart clerk shouldn't be making as much money as a teacher with a college degree!
I know two girls quitting their tutoring position's at their local Kumon center (nick named 'sweat shop') for Walmart. With Walmart you actually have job security - even benefit's. More so, you don't need to feel like your conning over every parent who walks in your door.
You're giving people what you pay for!
If Walmart charged as much as Kumon does (compared to what they pay staff) - a gallon of milk would cost 12 dollars!
I was a grader working at the Japanese slavery ring also known as "KUMON MATH & READING." You cannot imagine what I was put through while working there. It sucked. :( :( :(
I love the way you put it. KUMON IS A SLAVERY RING!
Not sure why companies like Kumon try to do business in USA.
Pay sucks. Work checking worksheets is boring.
I work at Kumon center in Florida that has lots of students and only one teacher. The center dirty and chaotic, no proper communication with us staff.
The children are given the same work repeatedly and parents complain during class adding to the chaos. Our salaries are never paid on time.
