The staff will also not correct the student's work. They will ask the parent to mark the work. This further demonstrates the lack of support from staff at the center.

My son started Kumon from the lowest level and is now 7 months into the program. It has been very time consuming for us to follow the program.

As the levels progress, the exercises take longer to complete. The staff at the center do not explain any concepts to the child. They assume the child will know how to do a new exercise. If the child does not know how to do a new set of exercises, they say that he should go back to the previous level even though he knows how to do that level.

This is not the solution to assisting the child to do a new exercise. The solution is to explain to the child the new concept, for him to complete the exercise. So the program would be beneficial if the staff at the center explained concepts to the child before the child starts doing the exercise. The support at the center is zero.

The parent has to teach the child to make the program work. If the parent does not have the time to teach the child then, the child will not progress. The student must do exercises every day 7 days a week - no miss. The parent has to prepared to assist the child every day.

The staff make the child repeat the books if they take longer than what they believe the child should take, rather than because the child struggles with the exercise. Often my son will take a long time to do exercises because he wants to go away and play and does not want to do the work, not because he does not understand the work. He is also very slow at writing. When he is given a repeat book, he gets very upset and questions why he has to repeat something he already knows how to do.

Sometimes the staff will give him the same book multiple times and even the parents become frustrated about this. He is tired of the program and I question whether he will want to continue with the program beyond this year. The staff will tell you to reduce the pages the child completes everyday to reduce the time it takes him to finish exercises, but this means that the child will progress at a much slower pace. It is also a very expensive program $130 to $140 a month.

Essentially all you receive is material and attend the center to sit tests after the child completes each level. I would probably look for another program that offers teaching assistance, as this program is not sustainable on ongoing basis.

Reason of review: Poor customer service.

Monetary Loss: $1040.

Preferred solution: Let the company propose a solution.

Kumon Pros: Couple of months were productive.

Kumon Cons: Material became redundant and obsolete.

Please call Kumon office. They refund all your money. Kumon company told me on the phone that they refund 100% up to 5 years of your child's tuition if you are not satisfied with their horrible service.
